Back to bloging

Well..... it has been a long time since I updated this build log and a lot has happened since. I have changed my build to being entirely aluminum instead of doing any of the fiberglass stuff that I was doing. I sold all of my fiberglass and resin parts except the skirt. My new dome has been here for a while but I had not done much work to it. However, being done with college, I now have way more free time to do fun stuff like work on R2. Things aren't all splendid but R2 is going strong and I really am only a couple of parts away from having everything that I need to finish him.

Anyway, Last night I freed all the panels from the outer dome.

My dome has a lot of laser slag on it so it will be fun tonight getting all of that off. Also I need to file down the tabs that were holding the panels to the dome.

Here is the large pile of panels that will be getting painted and sanded to 2000 grit. I hope I will be able to get to that before winter but I need to get a set of ultimate hinges first. They hold the painted panels up

None of what I am doing is ground breaking but it's progress.

The final update on this log is the Midwest logo. I have been designing and redesigning the logo for about 4 months now. It has been through a lot of changes and updates but I think I finally have a "Final" version that I will use on shirt runs and other branding things.

Also on a not droid note, I have started acquiring parts for a storm trooper costume. I may devote a lot of time to finishing that when it comes in so at least I can troop with the 501st and Great Lakes Garrison.

This blog may turn into a multiple project blog but for now will remain just R2

Post MGD 2.0

So after some marathon cutting, sanding, filing, and grinding, this is the current state of R2.

His eye is not permanently mounted yet. I can't quite decide on what placement I like. There are quite a few different positions and I just don't know which I like best. The lower panels still need to be removed but he is getting so close to being painted. I'll need to fill some pin holes in the Carbon Fiber panels but overall it should be fairly quick and easy.

MGD2.0 was awesome. I had a great day meeting some of the builders and dreaming of where my R2 will be one day.

Here are some pictures from the gathering:

Pie Panel Removal

Finally I am able to update my build log. For once mother nature decided to give us Michiganders a 70 degree day.

So I was able to square all the holes for the the front and rear logics. I rounded all the holes for the holos and PSIs. Best of all, I started the move from a fixed panel dome to a movable panel dome, thanks to Crash's Carbon Fiber Panel Kit. I still need to do the lower panels but for the couple hours i spent, I made great progress. Sadly I wiped away Crash's signature when I was wiping the fiberglass off. Crash will have to sign the BFF for me before he sends it in a place that is more protected.
Here is what I got done.

Also our air compressor has been broken for quite some time and I was covered in fiberglass so we used the Redneck Air Compressor.... a leaf blower.

Build Update

Sorry it has been so long since the last update.

I was able to do some work yesterday and finished up my Teeces kit. I struggled a bit with getting the teeces working but I have a solution now.

I need to finish the CuriousMarc Holo boards that go with it also. It's been pretty cold in Michigan so it has been hard to get out to cut the dome and finish the cuts.

I got a Dremel Workstation and a BatteryTender for christmas. I wont really need either right away but they are good items to have.
